Hard water is water that has high mineral content (in contrast with soft water). Hard water minerals primarily consist of calcium (Ca2+), and magnesium (Mg2+) metalcations, and sometimes other dissolved compounds such as bicarbonates and sulfates. Calcium usually enters the water as either calcium carbonate (CaCO3), in the form of limestone and chalk, or calcium sulfate (CaSO4), in the form of other mineral deposits. The predominant source of magnesium is dolomite (CaMg(CO3)2). Hard water is generally not harmful to one's health.
Sadly, all of the water in our residence is not filtered that well. It's all hard water. Although, not harmful, it's pretty annoying. First of all, it leaves my hair really rough and my skin ultra dry. Second, no matter how hard I scrub my dishes, the limescale builds up. It has permanently damaged my brand new water boiler! The limescale build up is very noticeable, around the sinks, the shower, and the toilet. Here's what I mean:
Didn't want to take pictures of the sinks and stuff because it might gross you out. And I am ashamed of the mess in my residence right now. But honestly, I'm sick of always being the one who's cleaning after everyone's shit.
On the brighter side, I bought sushi! The chili sauce on those salmon rolls are crazy. If I don't scrap it off, I would need to drink a carton of milk to save my tongue.
